Women's Hoops Flies Past Fordham, 66-39

BRONX, N.Y. - Junior Kate Flavin scored 20 points, with 16 coming in the first half, to lead the University of Richmond women's basketball team to a 66-39 victory over Fordham tonight at Rose Hill Gym. With their third straight win, the Spiders improve to 16-8, 8-5 in the conference while the Rams fall to 11-13, 4-9 in the A-10.
In addition to her 20 points, Flavin grabbed 17 rebounds, including a season-high eight offensive boards. Senior Amber Goppert also reached double-figures with 16 points.
Senior Beth Ann Dickinson was the only Ram in double-digits with 14 points off a 4-of-6 performance from beyond the arc.
Fordham held a 6-0 advantage before Richmond was able to get on the scoreboard off a lay-up from Goppert five minutes into the contest. Araceli Gil connected on consecutive three-point baskets to bring the Spiders within two points (10-8).
Richmond took its first lead with just under ten minutes remaining in the half after Flavin's ten-foot jumper. Flavin scored the Spiders' next 12 points as Richmond built a nine-point advantage. Richmond outscored Fordham 18-6 throughout the final ten minutes of the half and held a 30-19 edge at the break.
In the second half, Fordham's Dickinson hit a pair of three's early in the second half, but Richmond maintained its double-digit lead. Saona Chapman's trey at the 8:53 mark gave the Spiders a 20-point lead (49-29).
Flavin recorded a double-double in the first half with 16 points and 11 rebounds at the break.
The Spiders went 5-of-9 from beyond the three-point line and connected on 90% of their free throw shots.
Richmond is back in action at the Robins Center on Sunday, February 22 when they host Massachusetts at 2:00 p.m.
