Women's Basketball Rolls Past Massachusetts 77-49

UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. - Senior Amber Goppert (Malone, N.Y.) scored a season-high 21 points as the University of Richmond women's basketball team topped Massachusetts 77-49 today at the Robins Center. The Spiders improve to 17-8, 9-5 in the conference while the Minutewomen drop their third straight and fall to 6-19, 2-12 in the A-10. Richmond currently has a 10-1 record at the Robins Center this season.
In addition to her game-high 21 points, Goppert registered a career-tying seven steals and seven assists. Freshman Christina Campion (Hamilton Square, N.J.) recorded her first career double-double with ten points and 13 rebounds. Junior Kate Flavin (Englewood, Colo) added 19 points and sophomore Saona Chapman (Voluntown, Conn.) contributed ten.
Junior Edris Bailey and freshman Tamara Tatham each scored a dozen for the Minutewomen.
Richmond took its first double-digit lead (14-4) just five minutes into the contest off freshman DeUnna Hendrix's jumper. After a four-minute dry spell in which neither team could score, Tatham connected on a lay-up for the Minutewomen that put the score at 16-6.
With 5:20 remaining in the half, Flavin's lay-up gave the Spiders a 20-point advantage before Richmond took its largest lead of the half (26) with a pair of free throws from Campion. At the break, the Spiders held a 43-22 advantage.
The Spiders held their largest lead of the game (36) with 4:50 left in the contest.
For the second time this season, all ten Richmond players scored.
The Spiders dished out 23 assists and made 18 thieves while Massachusetts committed 25 turnovers.
Richmond was a perfect 8-8 from the free throw line.
The Spiders next battle Duquesne in Pittsburgh, Pa. on Thursday, March 26 at 7:00 p.m.
