Baseball Shuts Out Old Dominion, 9-0

Charleston, S.C. - The University of Richmond hurler Thomas Martin (Charlottesville, Va.) struck out nine in his seven innings of action to lead the Spiders to a 9-0 win against Old Dominion in their second game of the Charleston Crab House Shootout, this afternoon.
Junior Jim Fasano (Horsham, Pa.) opened the game with a single off the right field wall allowing sophomore Ben Zeskind (Miami, Fla.), who reached base on balls, to score. Fasano crossed the plate when freshman Josh Farkes (Boston, Mass.) struck out, but reached base due to a wild pitch. The Spiders ended the inning with an early 2-0 lead.
In the bottom of the first, the Monarchs tried to respond with bases loaded but Martin struck out two to close out the inning.
After six scoreless innings, seniors A.J. Board (Raleigh, N.C.) and David Thomas (McLean, Va.) stroked back-to-back singles to right field. Sophomore Andrew Justice (Henderson, N.C.) hit a double up the middle, allowing pinch-runner John Cronin (Branford, Conn.) and Board to score. Senior Bryan Pritz (Wilmette, Ill.) and sophomore Zeskind reached base on balls, then Fasano singled to right field scoring Justice and Pritz to give Richmond the 6-0 lead. Farkes recorded his lone hit and 2 RBI of the game when he singled to center field, allowing Fasano and Zeskind to score. The Spiders ended the inning with six runs on five hits and an 8-0 lead.
In the ninth, seniors Bobby LeNoir (Wilmington, Del.) and Pritz blasted back-to-back doubles, with Pritz's hit scoring LeNoir for Richmond's final run of the game.
Old Dominion was led by junior pitcher Justin Verlander who struck out 10 in seven innings of play and allowed three runs and two hits.
Richmond returns to the field when they face West Virginia Sunday at 11 a.m. for its final game of the tournament.
