Baseball Victorious Against VCU, 14-7

UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. - Freshman Josh Farkes tallied three hits and three RBI to lead the University of Richmond to a 14-7 win against Virginia Commonwealth (9-6), this afternoon at the Diamond. The Spiders' record improves to 10-2 with the win.
In the first, Bobby LeNoir (Wilmington, Del.) singled to center and scored off a sacrifice fly by A.J. Board (Raleigh, N.C), before the Rams responded with two runs in the bottom of the inning.
Richmond added two runs in the second and in the third Farkes recorded his first RBI when he singled to center, scoring Board.
In the fourth, first baseman Jim Fasano (Horsham, Pa.) ripped his sixth home run of the year, over the right field wall, knocking in David Thomas (McLean, Va.), before the Rams responded with two runs in the fifth making the score 6-4.
The Spiders posted seven runs in the sixth off four hits. LeNoir reached base on an error and scored off a wild pitch, then Fasano reached base on a fielder's choice. Board doubled to left center allowing Fasano to score. Alex Wotring (Bethesda, Md.) walked and Farkes stroked a two-run double down the left field line. Anthony Sandstrom (Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.) doubled, scoring Farkes and Chris Dolan (Holmdel, N.J.) walked, putting runners at first and second. Ben Zeskind (Miami, Fla.) then knocked his second and third RBI of the game.
The Rams put two runs on the board in the sixth and seventh innings and then Dolan put Richmond's final run on the board, in the eighth. VCU's Jeff Parrish hit a solo home run in the ninth.
Thomas Martin (Charlottesville, Va.) pitched six innings, striking out three to earn his third win of the season. The Rams' Jon Link took the loss after allowing six runs on seven hits in four innings on the mound.
Richmond returns to the field Friday, March 12 when they host VCU at 2:30 p.m.
