Baseball Falls to the Rams, 8-1

UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. - The University of Richmond baseball team recorded only one run, on six hits as it lost the final game, 8-1, of its four-game series against Virginia Commonwealth University, this afternoon at Pitt Field. The Spiders' record falls to 11-4, with the loss, while the Rams improve to 11-7.
Virginia Commonwealth clinched the 6-0 lead in the first and never relinquished it. Bobby LeNoir (Wilmington, Del.) led the Spiders with three hits and Joe Meador went three for five, including two runs and one RBI for the Rams.
In the first inning, the Spiders committed four errors and the Rams posted six runs on four hits.
After six scoreless innings, Richmond posted its lone run when designated hitter Alex Wotring (Bethesda, Md.) singled to center field and scored on a sacrifice fly by pinch hitter Andrew Justice (Henderson, N.C.). VCU responded with one run apiece in the final two innings, including a home run to center field by Anthony Granato in the ninth.
Rob Berzinskas (Clinton, Conn.) posted his first loss of the season after allowing six runs and seven hits, in 6.2 innings pitched. Virginia Commonwealth's Matt Prendergast pitched a complete game and recorded his third win of the year.
The Spiders return to action when they host William & Mary Tuesday, March 16 at 2:30 p.m.
