
Spider Student-Athletes Honored by A-10

UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. - Three University of Richmond student-athletes were recognized on the Atlantic 10's Weekly Honor Roll for their accomplishments in last week's events as announced today by the league. Senior Polly Purcell (Ellicott City, Md.) was named Lacrosse Player of the Week while freshman Robin Carter (Mendham, N.J.) earned Women's Tennis co-Rookie of the Week honors. Freshman Rachel Brushett (Silver Springs, Md.) was selected as the Women's Track and Field Rookie of the Week.
Carter posted a 4-0 record this week with singles wins against George Mason (6-1, 6-0), Old Dominion (6-4, 6-4), N.C. State (6-1, 6-3) and James Madison (6-1, 6-2). She also recorded wins in doubles action against George Mason and Old Dominion. Carter posts a team-best 12-4 spring record and has won her last nine singles matches.
Purcell earned her first weekly award after scoring 11 goals in the Spiders' two games, an 11-10 loss to Towson on Friday and a 20-13 win over La Salle on Sunday afternoon. Purcell totaled four goals at Towson and added a career-high seven against the Explorers. In addition, she contributed eight ground balls, five draw controls and two caused turnovers. She currently leads the Spiders with 24 goals this season.
Brushett earned her first-ever Rookie of the Week accolade after she finished first in the high jump and set a school record with a mark of 5-6 during a quad-meet with VCU, Radford and William & Mary on Sunday. She also placed sixth in the triple jump (34-2) and seventh in the long jump (16-1/2).
