Women's Tennis Prepares For Atlantic 10 Tourney

UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. - Riding a four-match winning streak, the University of Richmond women's tennis team and head coach Mark Wesselink travel to the Tennis Center of College Park, Md. to compete in the Atlantic 10 Championships, April 16-18.
Since March 28 the Spiders (11-8) have won their last four matches, including a 5-2 victory over 61st-ranked Virginia Tech. Freshman Robin Carter, a native of Mendham, N.J., leads Richmond with a 14-5 spring record and during the season she posted a nine-match singles win streak at No. 4.
Three other Spiders have tallied 10 or more wins in singles action, this spring and they include juniors Lindsay Cox and Courtney Klein and freshman Emily Applegate. In doubles action, Carter and Klein have combined for a 12-6 record at the third position and Cox and freshman Beatrice Grasu post a 10-4 record at No. 1.
Richmond won its first Atlantic 10 crown in 2002 and its quest for the second one begins on Friday. The Tournament seeding will take place Thursday evening and matches begin Friday morning at 8 a.m.
