Women's Lacrosse Falls to St. Bonaventure 13-11

ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. - The Bonnies rallied from an early three-goal deficit to earn a 13-11 victory over Richmond Friday afternoon at McGraw Jennings field.
The Spiders opened the scoring as senior attack Polly Purcell scored at 26:01. Richmond netted two more goals to go up 3-0 barely six minutes into the game.
St. Bonaventure freshman midfielder Robin Mason got the Bonnies' on the board with a goal at the 21:07 mark.
The Spiders answered back with two goals from Kristen Habicht and Libby Berlacher. Tailing 5-1 with 15:04 remaining, the Bonnies would outscore Richmond 4-1 to end the half.
The Bonnies' freshman Katie Hurley started a 3-0 run, as senior Laura Spaulding netted the other pair. Sophomore Sarah Dressler scored the final St. Bonaventure goal with 47 remaining to bring the Bonnies within one, 6-5.
St. Bonaventure carried its momentum into the second half as sophomore Courtney Gibbons tied the game at six apiece with 27:35 left in the game.
The Spiders regained the lead at 26: 40 as Libby Berlacher beat St. Bonaventure freshman goalkeeper Eileen Gagnon to give Richmond a 7-6 lead.
Both teams would exchange goals before the Bonnies recorded back-to-back goals from the sticks of junior Kelly Chevez and Gibbons.
The Spiders rallied and tied the score at 10 apiece with 13:08 left in the game. The Bonnies took the lead for good, as sophomore midfielder Alexis Spallone netted consecutive goals to give the Bonnies a 12-10 lead.
The Spiders pulled within one, 12-11, with 4:35 but Spallone added an insurance goal with a minute left to seal the game.
Both Gibbons and Spallone added three goals for the Bonnies and Chevez added a goal and three assists.
With the win, Bonnies earn a tie with Richmond for the fourth and final playoff spot in the A-10 with a record of 2-2. Overall, St. Bonaventure improves to 5-4, while Richmond falls to 6-7.
The Spiders play Duquesne on Sunday at 1 p.m.
