
Women's Tennis Advances To A-10 Semis

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The Richmond women's tennis team extended its season-high win streak to five matches with a 4-0 win against Fordham in the 2004 Atlantic 10 Championship quarterfinals this afternoon at the Tennis Center of College Park. The top-seeded Spiders advance to the A-10 semifinals where they will meet No. 4 seed Temple at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday.
The Spiders swept the final four singles matches and captured No. 1 and No. 3 doubles to earn the shutout. Robin Carter won her 12th match in the last 13 with a straight-set victory at No. 4. Carter is now 23-6 in singles competition this season.
Emily Applegate emerged 6-0, 6-1 at No. 5, while Courtney Klein won her fifth consecutive match at No. 6, also in straight sets.
Carter and Klein improved to 18-7 on the season with their 8-0 doubles win at No. 3, while Beatrice Grasu and Lindsay Cox prevailed 8-1 at No. 1 doubles.
Richmond did face Temple during the regular season, defeating the Owls 4-3 on April 2. The Spiders captured No. 3-6 singles and Nos. 2-3 doubles in that contest.
