Baseball Hits The Road This Weekend

UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. - The University of Richmond baseball team is back in action when it travels to Cincinnati, Ohio to face Xavier University, this weekend. Saturday is a doubleheader and Sunday is a single contest, first pitch for both days is scheduled for Noon.
The Spiders (21-16, 9-3 A-10) are in second place in the A-10 West Division behind George Washington and the Musketeers (12-28, 4-8) sit in the fifth spot in the West.
Junior Thomas Martin (Charlottesville, Va.) will start on the hill for the Spiders in the first game on Saturday. Martin posted his fourth win of the season last Saturday after striking out six, allowing only four hits and one run in his sixth career complete game.
GAME NOTES
The Series
The Spiders lead the all-time series, 5-3, against the Musketeers, which began in 2002 when UR joined the Atlantic 10 conference. They last met at the 2003 A-10 Tournament in which Xavier defeated UR, 2-1, in the first round, forcing the Spiders to move through the loser's bracket and eventually win the Atlantic 10 Title.

...most recently fell to Indiana State on Tuesday, 9-8 in 14 innings.
...have lost six of their last ten contests, including three Atlantic 10 games.
...post a 8-14 home field record.
...are 3rd in the A-10 with a .269 opposing batting average.
...Jay Johnson is tied for 6th in the A-10 with 10 stolen bases.
...Daniel Graham is tied for 3rd in the A-10 with 56 batters struck out.

Weekend ReCap
The Spiders got back on track this past weekend when they swept the three-game conference series against Duquesne and held onto their second place in the A-10 West Division.
Thomas Martin threw his sixth career complete game in the series opening contest on Saturday after allowing only four hits and one run and struck out six. Senior A.J. Board finished the weekend 8-for-11, including two doubles and six RBI and the left fielder was named the Atlantic 10 co-Player of the Week.
On Deck
The Spiders hit the road again on Wednesday, May 5th to take-on Virginia Tech at 7 p.m. in Blacksburg, Va. Atlantic 10 action continues for the Spiders when they host Dayton University for a single game (2 p.m.) on Friday, May 7th and a doubleheader at noon on Saturday, May 8th.
Going, Going, Gone...
Senior Chris Dolan crushed his first home run of the 2004 season on Saturday, April 24 against Duquesne. Junior Jim Fasano ripped his 12th dinger of the season on Sunday, April 25 and now leads the Spiders and the Atlantic 10.
