
Women's Tennis Prepares for NCAA Championships

UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. - The University of Richmond women's tennis team will be making the program's fourth appearance in the NCAA Championships on Saturday when they face Tulane University at 4 p.m. EST. The Spiders (14-8) earned the automatic bid after capturing their second Atlantic 10 title since joining the league three years ago.
In 2002, the Spiders' last appearance in the tournament, Richmond suffered a 4-0 loss to Pennsylvania in first round action. The Spiders have a never won a contest in the tournament play.
Richmond freshman Beatrice Grasu was named Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Year after posting a 6-12 record at the #1 singles position and compiling a 12-4 mark in doubles action. In addition, junior Lindsay Cox and sophomore Meghan Wolfgram joined Grasu on the All-Conference team. Richmond head coach Mark Wesselink was named the league's Coach of the Year.
Tulane, a #16 seed, has lost just one match this year with a 25-1 record. The Green Wave has won their last 16 contests and is led by two-time Conference USA Player of the Year Jenny Kuhn.
The winner will advance to regional championship match on Sunday, May 16 at 2 p.m. EST.
