UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. - For the second time in three years, the University of Richmond women's tennis season was highlighted with the Atlantic 10 Championship and the automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.
Head coach Beatrice Grasu was selected the Most Outstanding Rookie Performer, as the Spiders tallied a 14-9 overall record and 3-0 at the A-10 Championships.
With the dynamic combination of eight student-athletes, including only one senior Patty Devlin, the Richmond squad registered a seven-match win streak towards the end of the season. During the streak the Spiders tallied its only win against a ranked opponent, when they topped #61 Virginia Tech, 5-2, on April 4.
The Spiders cruised to their second A-10 crown, since joining the conference in 2002, after winning against Fordham (4-0), Temple (4-1) and Xavier (4-0). They then traveled to Norman, Okla. to face 11th-ranked Tulane in the first round of the NCAA Tourney, but fell short 4-0.
