COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The 11th-ranked Richmond field hockey team saw its season-opening, five-match win streak snapped by American, 2-0, this afternoon.
The Eagles' Shannon Goans scored in the 31st minute mark to give the home squad a 1-0 advantage.
Coming out of halftime, Camila Infante took a pass from Maureen Daniel and beat Spider goalie Michelle Swartz to give American a 2-0 lead. Goans was also credited with an assist on the play.
American goaltender Allison Fayfich finished with five saves, four of which came in later part of the second half.
Richmond held a 13-11 advantage in shots, nine of which came in the final frame. AU garnered six penalty corners to the Spiders' four in the contest.
The Spiders continue their weekend tomorrow with a 2 p.m. contest at Crenshaw Field against Towson.
