Field Hockey Wraps Up Home Regular Season Against Saint Joseph's And Temple

UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. - The Spider field hockey team will play its final two home games this weekend, when it hosts Saint Joseph's Friday, Oct. 14, at 3:30 p.m. and Temple Sunday, Oct. 16, at noon at Crenshaw Field. The Spiders, who carry a 21-game win streak in A-10 regular season games dating back to the 2001 season, swept last weekend's conference action by topping UMass, 4-1, and Rhode Island, 8-0.
Richmond, which will celebrate its eight seniors prior to Sunday's game against Temple, also has a 26-game win streak in all A-10 games dating back to the 2002 season.
The reigning Atlantic 10 Player of the Week, senior All-American Allie Howard, is coming off an impressive weekend in which she notched four goals, one assist and one defensive save in just two games. The Lancaster, Pa., native leads the Spiders with four conference goals on just eight shots in two games.
Senior Whitney Wells also had a tremendous weekend against UMass and Rhode Island. The Clayton, Del., native recorded a hat trick against the Rams Sunday afternoon, and added an assist on a goal by junior Heather Wrublesky.
Senior Michelle Swartz picked up her 31st career shutout against Rhode Island by stopping just two Ram shots. The Severna Park, Md., native has a save percentage of .753 this season, which ranks 20th in the nation.
Saint Joseph's (8-5, 1-1) comes into the weekend tied for third in the conference with a 1-1 mark. The Hawks are led by junior Nicole Antonini's 11 goals. The midfielder leads the A-10 with those 11 goals, five of which have been game-winners.
Temple (7-8, 2-0) enters the weekend tied atop the Atlantic 10 standings with Richmond. The Owls beat La Salle (2-1, OT) and West Chester (4-2) last weekend, and will face Saint Louis at 3:30 p.m., Friday, before travelling to Richmond. Junior Lindsay Holman has scored seven goals in Temple's 15 games to lead the Owls, while sophomore Alli Lokey has passed out seven assists for Temple.
Richmond owns the lead in both all-time series against St. Joe's and Temple. The Spiders are 7-4 against the Hawks, winning the last four in the series, and have never lost to the Owls, going 9-0 in the series dating back to 1998.
