Temple star Mark Macon was held in check and this time it was Richmond's Ken Atkinson who exploded with 24 points as the Spiders avenged their loss from the Sweet 16. Atkinson made 6-of-9 three-pointers, while Eric English poured in 16 points and grabbed five rebounds. Mike Winiecki, who would later return to Richmond as an assistant coach, scored six points and pulled down eight rebounds.
Freshman Curtis Blair played just seven minutes, but made all three of his shots from the field and 2-of-3 foul shots to finish with nine points. Temple shot just 33 percent from the field, with Macon having a particularly tough night. He connected on just five of 18 shots, but still led the Owls with 13 points.

Richmond was down 28-23 at the half, but rallied in the second stanza to narrow the gap. Behind Reginald Tusner's 24 points and Andy Kennedy's 15, the Blazers held on for the three-point win.
Stapleton connected on 7-of-9 shots from the floor and pulled down seven rebounds. Eric English also reached double figures with 13 points for the Spiders, who ended their season with a 21-10 mark.
