WASHINGTON - The University of Richmond women's lacrosse team recorded its second straight win of the season this afternoon as they defeated American 10-6. The Spiders improve to 2-4 on the season.
Senior Kristen Habicht led the team with four goals and Caroline McGuire added a pair. Four other players added scores for Richmond.
Trailing 7-3 midway through the second period, the host Eagles ripped off three consecutive goals to get within one.
However, just 23 seconds later Richmond answered when Kristen Habicht scored her game-high fourth goal. The Spiders put the game away when Caroline McGuire scored a pair of goals 19 seconds apart at 4:32 and 4:13.
American opened the game slowly, giving up a pair of Habicht goals just 2:05 into the game. After a nearly 45 minute delay due to a lightning storm, Moriah Linnell opened up the Eagles' scoring with an unassisted tally at the 16:14 mark. The Spiders answered with three straight goals to make it a 5-1 game.
The two teams traded the next four goals to put the score at 7-3 with 23:29 left in the second period, before American launched its comeback.
Richmond goalkeeper Jackie Swansburg recorded seven saves.
The Spiders are back in action on March 23 when they face UMBC in Baltimore.
