Women's Lacrosse Surges Past Saint Joseph's 15-7

PHILADELPHIA - Richmond (5-7, 3-2 A-10) scored eight unanswered goals to take control of a one goal game and defeat Saint Joseph's (4-6, 1-3 A-10) in Atlantic 10 women's lacrosse on Finnesey Field, 15-7.
Sophomore Morghan Vahue led the Spiders with four goals while classmate Ashley Friend and freshman Jenna Hubbard both recorded hat tricks with three scores each. Four other Richmond players contributed goals and Vahue also paced the team in assists with two.
Lindsey McCool put SJU up first, 1-0, but Richmond answered back with goals from Ashley Friend to take the lead, 2-1. Two more goals by McCool, however gave the Hawks a 3-2 lead with 7:18 left in the first half.
The Spiders then erupted for eight straight goals, including five to end the first half. SJU ended the run with a goal by O'Connell, but UR's Morghan Vahue added two straight tallies to give UR a 12-4 advantage.
Richmond outshot SJU, 31-20 and held a 23-21 groundball edge.
Senior goalkeeper Courtney Huff had 10 saves for St. Joe's, while Richmond's Jackie Swansburg delivered nine stops.
