Former Spider Tim Stauffer Picks Up First Career Win In Big League Debut

CINCINNATI, Ohio - Former Richmond baseball star, Tim Stauffer, who opened the 2005 Major League season with the Portland Beavers (Triple-A - San Diego), earned a win in his Major League debut Wednesday afternoon against Cincinnati.
The right hander, who was called up to the San Diego Padres Sunday, allowed two runs on four hits, fanned five and walked three in six innings of work. He also garnered a basehit in his first at-bat of the game and finished his day at the plate going 1-for-3.
Another former Spider, Sean Casey, first baseman for the Reds, finished the day 1-for-3 against Stauffer including a walk.
As a Spider he finished his career as a consensus First Team All-American after compiling five all-time records. He holds marks in single-season innings-pitched (146.0), single-season strikeouts (146), single-season complete games (13), single-season victories (15) and career strikeouts (362).
Stauffer became the highest drafted player ever to play at Richmond when he was taken as the fourth overall pick in the 2003 MLB Draft by the San Diego Padres.
