UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. - The 19th-ranked Richmond field hockey squad scored seven goals in the second half to top Davidson, 9-0, marking the most single-game goals scored this season. Junior Shannon Taylor tied the Spiders' single-game goals record with four on the day helping Richmond to improves 7-4, while Davidson dropped to 5-7.
The Spiders scored just two goals in the first half, one of which came in the second minute of play. Freshman Lindsey Conrad took an entry pass from Taylor to score her only goal of the day. Taylor notched her first of the day in the 28th minute off an assist from freshman Jess Weidner after a broken corner play.
Richmond, who garnered 13 shots in the first half as well as six corner attempts, turned on the offensive pressure in the second half. The Spiders scored seven goals on 27 shots, and garnerd 12 penalty corners in the final 35 minutes.
Senior Jodi Murphy logged a goal in the 37th minute. Freshman Megan Thompson scored one in the 45th minute and again in the 51st minute. Sophomore Alex Malatesta added a penalty stroke goal at the 46:43 mark.
Taylor scored three of her four in the second half including one unassisted in the 50th minute when she fired into the cage and got a deflection off the keeper. Her final two came at the 58:32 mark (assisted by junior Ines Reimundes), and off a penalty corner in the 63rd minute.
The nine goal effort tied the second-most goals in a game for the Spiders, and were the most since scoring nine against West Chester, Oct. 23 last season. The win also gives Spider head coach Ange Bradley the 125th victory of her career. Bradley, a University of Delaware Athletics Hall of Famer, is 125-60 in her 10 seasons as a head coach. Bradley also has a mark of 86-35 in her six seasons at Richmond.
