Michael Sommer Named A-10 Men's Tennis Rookie Of The Week

UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. - University of Richmond's Michael Sommer was named the Atlantic 10 Men's Tennis Rookie of the Week after helping the Spiders to a 4-3 victory over A-10 rival George Washington on Friday afternoon.
Sommer, a freshman from Long Grove, Ill., has compiled a singles record of 3-3 and a doubles mark of 2-2 in the Spiders' first eight matches. Playing at the No. 6 singles, Sommer defeated Will Timmons of George Washington (6-1, 6-2), and then paired with Chris Louis to earn an 8-3 victory at the No. 3 doubles spot as the Spiders edged the Colonials, 4-3 on Friday afternoon. On Saturday, Sommer dropped at the No. 6 singles spot and the No. 3 doubles position as Navy pulled out a 4-3 win over the Spiders in Annapolis, Md.
The Spiders will return to action on Feb. 15 at 8:00 p.m. when they will host Hampton on the Richmond campus.
