Women's Tennis Downs UMass In Semi-Finals; Will Compete In A-10 Final Sunday

MONROEVILLE, Pa. - The Richmond women's tennis team topped fourth-seed Massachusetts Saturday afternoon in the Atlantic 10 Tournament semi-finals at the Club 4 Life in Monroeville, Pa. The top-seed Spiders will continue their quest for a third straight title, and fourth in the past five years, Sunday at 1:00 p.m. in the final round against second-seed Charlotte.
The Spiders swept doubles action as Beatrice Grasu and Robin Carter paired up at second doubles to take an 8-4 win over their opponents. Although Jessica Hubbard didn't finish their match at the No. 1 spot, Pamela Duran and Ashlee Vosters came together for an 8-2 victory to give the Spiders a 1-0 lead going into singles play.
While Grasu and Wolfgram did not finish their singles matches (first and fourth), Carter pulled out a 6-2, 6-3 win over UMass' Johnson at third singles, Vosters won at fifth singles, and Hubbard pulled out a 6-3, 6-3 win over her opponent at the No. 6 spot to give the Spiders a 3-0 advantage in singles action and a 4-0 victory over the Minutewomen.
Tomorrow, Richmond (13-7) will be going for its fourth conference championship in just five years of league competition and will look to top the 49ers for the second time this season.
