Men's Tennis Advances In A-10 Tournament With a 4-1 Win Over Saint Joseph's

MONROEVILLE, Pa. - The sixth seed University of Richmond men's tennis squad defeated the third-seed Saint Joseph's Hawks, 4-1, in the second match of the Atlantic 10 Tournament on Friday afternoon at the Club 4 Life in Monroeville, Pa. on its quest for its third-straight Atlantic 10 Championship. The Spiders, who concluded their season 12-13 overall and 0-2 in the A-10, have claimed the A-10 title three of the past four years and will continue action on Saturday at 2:00 p.m.
Richmond's Matt Stillwagon and Bobby McNally paired up at first doubles to defeat the Hawks' Holland/Aniello duo, 8-6. The Spiders' DougBanker/Brett Waikart twosome did not finish their No. 2 match; however, Chris Louis and David Berry paired up for an 8-6 win at No. 3 doubles to give the Spiders a 1-0 advantage heading into singles action.
While Banker's No. 1 and Waikart's No. 5 singles matches were not finished, McNally earned a win at No. 2 singles (6-2, 3-6, 6-2), and Louis and Michael Sommer each earned wins at No. 4 and 6, respectively. Although Stillwagon fell at third singles, the Spiders were still able to take a 3-1 advantage in singles action and ended the match with a 4-1 lead over the Hawks.
