No. 14 VCU Knocks Women's Tennis Out Of NCAA Tournament

RICHMOND, Va. - The University of Richmond women's tennis team was knocked out of the NCAA tournament after falling 4-0 to the undefeated Virginia Commonwealth Rams (28-0), one of the nation's top teams, on Friday morning in first round action at the Thalhimer Tennis Center in Richmond, Va.
Although Pamela Duran and Ashlee Vosters paired up at third doubles for a hard-fought 8-6 win, the Rams secured the doubles point with wins at the No. 1 and 2 spots and moved on to earn wins at No. 2, 3, and 4 singles.
In singles action, Beatrice Grasu, Vosters, and Jessica Hubbard were unable to finish their matches, while teammate Duran suffered a 6-0, 6-3 loss at the No. 2 spot to No. 51 Marianna Yuferova. Shortly after, Robin Carter fell at third singles as the Rams took a 3-0 advantage in singles action and concluded the match, 4-0.
"I give much credit to VCU," stated Richmond head coach Mark Wesselink. "We knew we'd have to bring our best game today. They are a very impressive team and will do extremely well in the NCAA's." Richmond, Atlantic 10 Champions and NCAA Tournament participants in four of the past five seasons, finishes its season 14-8.
"I'm proud of my team," stated Wesselink. "They fought as hard as they could and, of course, it's a disappointing loss, but we will use it to motivate us to go further next year."
