UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. - After winning their third consecutive A-10 title and fourth championship in the last five year, the University of Richmond men's and women's tennis teams will travel only as far as across town to city-rival VCU for the first round of the NCAA Regional Tournament. The Spiders will compete the weekend of May 12-14 at the Thalhimer Tennis Center.
The fourth-seeded women's squad (14-7), ranked No. 71, will face the undefeated Rams on May 12 at 10:00 a.m. In the region's other match, second-seed William & Mary will compete against third-seed NC State. The winners of first round action will meet in the second round on Saturday, May 13 at 3:00 p.m.
The Spider women, winners of their last five matches, are making the program's sixth NCAA appearance after previously advancing to the NCAA Championships in 1997, 1998, 2002, 2004, and 2005. Richmond has never won a match while competing in the NCAA Championships as a team. Last year, the Spiders fell to No. 13 North Carolina in first round action in Chapel Hill, N.C.
