BUIES CREEK, N.C. - The Richmond women's golf team is in fourth place at the Fighting Camel Spring Classic after carding a 317 Monday at Keith Hills Country Club No. 1.
The Spiders are one shot behind third-place Wichita State and two strokes behind second-place Illinois State. Host Campbell, which has won three-straight tournaments, has the first round lead at 300.
The second and final round of the 36-hole tournament will be played Tuesday.
"The first round we played well and I think that was because not all the teams got their practice round in because of the weather, but we stayed out there, we were the last team on the course," Richmond head coach Leighann Albaugh said. "That persistence helped in the first round."
Freshman Lauren Folgosa shot a career-best 78 to lead the Spiders Monday on the par-72 6,012-yard Keith Hills layout. Sophomore Rosario Germino carded a 79 and freshman Victoria Kidder had an 80. Senior Ashley Lambert shot an 81 and junior Alex Latimer had an 87.
