UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. - After winning its fourth consecutive A-10 title and fifth championship in the last six years, the Richmond women's tennis team will travel to Williamsburg, Va. to compete against CAA Champions William & Mary in the first round of the NCAA Regional Tournament. The Regionals will be held Friday, May 11, and Saturday, May 12, at the Busch Courts.
The fourth-seeded Spider women's squad (9-7) will face the Tribe (20-2) on May 11. In the region's other match, Ivy League Champion Pennsylvania (17-4) will compete against No. 19 Wake Forest (14-7).
The Demon Deacons and Quakers will play in the opening match at noon on Friday, before the Tribe and Spiders battle at 3 p.m. The regional final will be at 1 p.m. on Saturday. The winner of the regional will advance to the NCAA Sweet 16 in Athens, Ga.
The Spider women, winners of nine of their last ten matches, are making the program's seventh NCAA appearance after previously advancing to the NCAA Championships in 1997, 1998, 2002, 2004, 2005 and 2006. Richmond has never won a match while competing in the NCAA Championships as a team and will look to capture its first victory this year. Last year, the Spiders fell to No. 14 VCU in first round action in Richmond, Va.
