
Women's Tennis Places Four On A-10 All-Conference Squad

UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. - Richmond sophomore Pamela Duran has been named the Atlantic 10's women's tennis Most Outstanding Performer in voting conducted among the Conference's head coaches following the A-10 Women's Tennis Championship. In that same vote, Richmond head coach Mark Wesselink was tabbed as Coach of the Year for the fourth straight time.
Seniors Beatrice Grasu and Robin Carter joined Duran on the All-Conference first team, while sophomore Ashlee Vosters was selected to the second-team.
At first singles and second doubles, Duran helped lead the Spiders to their fourth consecutive title at the A-10 Championships, held April 20-22 at the Club 4 Life in Monroeville, Pa. Duran, who hails from Guayaquil, Ecuador, went 1-1 in singles play and 1-0 in doubles matches. At first singles, she garnered a 6-2, 6-3 win in the final match against fellow first-team All-Conference selection Yuri Kurashima of Temple. She also dropped a 7-5, 7-5 match to Spivakovsky. In the only doubles match she played to completion, she teamed with second-team All-Conference selection Vosters to earn an 8-4 win against Charlotte.
Duran, last year's Most Outstanding Rookie, is currently ranked 104 in the nation, posting an 11-6 mark at first singles this spring and a 13-3 record in doubles, including a 12-match win streak at the no. 2 spot.
Grasu, a senior out of Reisterstown, Md., earns first team honors after a perfect performance at A-10's, going 3-0 at third singles and 2-0 at first doubles with Carter. She posted an 8-8 mark in singles play this spring, in addition to teaming up with Carter for a 7-10 record in doubles action.
Carter also went undefeated in tournament play, posting a 2-0 mark at both second singles and first doubles. The senior from Mendham, N.J. also recorded a 9-9 singles mark this spring, competing mostly at the no. 2 spot, as well as a 7-10 record at first doubles with Grasu.
Vosters, who has won seven of her last eight matches that were finished, including a 1-0 mark in both singles and doubles action at the A-10 Championships, posted a 12-4 record in singles play this spring, as well as a 13-3 doubles mark with Duran.
Wesselink earns his fifth Coach of the Year award and fourth in a row for leading the Spiders to their fourth consecutive A-10 title. The Championship's second seed, Richmond managed wins over Saint Louis (4-0), Charlotte (4-1), and Temple (4-0) en route to the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.
