UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. - Robin Carter will walk across the University of Richmond's Robins Center stage at graduation this weekend, concluding her collegiate tennis career as the winningest singles player under 18th year head coach Mark Wesselink.
But first, she will join her team in one final run at an NCAA Championship, her fourth-straight attempt, in Williamsburg, Va. The Spiders will face the William & Mary Tribe on Friday at 3:00 p.m. in an NCAA Regional first round match up and Carter will look to add one more singles and doubles win to her impressive college tennis resume.
Carter, a senior native of Mendham, N.J., has notched double-digit wins in singles play all four years en route to becoming the most winningest singles player (75-40) in Wesselink's coaching period. She has also accumulated 58 wins in doubles action, competing mostly with senior teammate Beatrice Grasu and 2005 graduate Courtney Klein.
"Robin never has a bad day," said Wesselink of his senior standout. "When she shows up for practice or matches, her level of effort is the same every time and it's a total commitment to the workout or match. She has continued to develop her game over the last four years."
Carter joined the Spiders from Newark Academy where she was named the New Jersey Player of the Year and a three-time All-State first team member. The honors continued to pour in for the tennis standout as she joined the Spiders, helping them to four-straight A-10 Championships and NCAA appearances, racking up several A-10 weekly honors, as well as three All-Conference honors along the way.
"She was very successful as a freshman and has continued to maintain that success with her hard work and determination to improve. She comes in every year having improved on something and she is the strongest she has ever been this year. She just knows how to win."
