Saint Joseph's Stays Perfect In A-10 With Win Over Spiders

UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. - Saint Joseph's remained undefeated in the Atlantic 10 with a 68-58 victory over Richmond on Wednesday night in the Robins Center.
The Spiders jumped out to a 12-5 lead five minutes into the game and led 16-15 with 10:02 remaining in the first half, but Saint Joseph's went on an 11-2 run to take the lead for good in its seventh-straight victory.
Richmond trailed by five (61-56) with 44 seconds left and had a chance to cut it to four with 33 seconds left, but missed two free throws.
Tasheed Carr led the Hawks (12-7, 5-0 Atlantic 10) with 21 points, Ahmad Nivins had 15 points and 14 rebounds and Idris Hilliard had 11.
Junior David Gonzalvez led the Spiders (11-9, 3-2 Atlantic 10) with 19 points, while freshman Kevin Anderson had 13 and sophomore Kevin Smith had 10.
The Spiders shot 42.1 percent from the field, just the sixth time Richmond has shot less than 46 percent from the field this year. Richmond made just 6-of-22 three-pointers and only 4-of-11 free throws.
Saint Joseph's connected on 16-of-21 free throws and made 23-of-48 field goals for 47.9 percent shooting.
Richmond hits the road to play at Temple on Saturday and at Massachusetts next Wednesday.
