UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. - Senior Sarah Blythe-Wood scored two more goals to give her seven in two Atlantic 10 games as the Richmond field hockey team defeated La Salle 4-0 Friday at Crenshaw Field.
The Spiders improved to 2-0 in the Atlantic 10, having now won 56 of the last 61 games against A-10 teams.
"Any time you come out and win a conference game it's a good win for your program and it's the momentum you need to go towards the A-10 Championship," Richmond head coach Gina Lucido said. "We weathered through frantic play on our end and we were able to deny La Salle any defensive penalty corners. It was a great defensive stance for us today. Our big focus points are being stingy on defense and playing good tactical hockey throughout course of game."
Blythe-Wood, who entered the match 13th in the nation in points per game (2.69) and 19th in goals per game (1.09), scored one goal in each half to bring her Atlantic 10-leading total to 16 and her career total to 30.
Blythe-Wood continues to climb the Spider record books with her 16 goals ranking 10th on Richmond's all-time single-season list.
She moved ahead of senior teammate Megan Thompson on Richmond's all-time points list with 75 and moved into eighth on the school's all-time goals list (30).
Thompson had one assist in the match, giving her 73 career points, which ranks ninth on Richmond's all-time list for points.
Sophomore Katelin Peterson scored her ninth goal of the season and junior Dani Pycroft scored her eighth goal.
Pycroft also had an assist, while senior Jess Weidner had two assists to give her 23 for her career, which brings her into a tie for fourth on Richmond's all-time list.
"Today was a full team effort and the set pieces of play and press are coming along," Lucido said. "It's a solid win that everyone felt a part of today and that's always a good boost of confidence and energy going into another A-10 contest vs. West Chester."
Senior goalkeeper Jacki Raithel recorded the shutout in goal.
The Spiders host West Chester on Sunday at noon for Senior Day.
