BEALLSVILLE, Md. - Freshman Daniel Walker posted his third-straight top-5 finish to close the fall season as the Richmond men's golf team placed third at the Georgetown Intercollegiate, completed Tuesday at the Members Club at Four Streams.
Walker, last week's Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week, tied for fifth at 4-over 146 to post his third-straight top-5 finish and his fourth top-10 finish in five collegiate tournaments.
"Daniel had a terrific start to his collegiate career this fall," Richmond head coach Adam Decker said. "We expected good things from him and he definitely delivered. To finish in the top-5 in three-straight tournaments is a terrific feat for an upperclassmen, but is obviously even more impressive for a freshman."
The Spiders shot a 295 in the second round after a 296 in the first round to finish at 591, two shots behind Washington State for second place and five shots behind UNC Greensboro for first.
Richmond, which placed in the top-3 in four of its five fall tournaments, finished one shot ahead of Campbell (592), which it finished second to at last week's Big 5 Invitational.
"We definitely had a good fall season," Decker said. "We were in a position to win just about every tournament we were in. The guys just have to keep working hard over the winter and come back even better in the spring season."
The Spiders finished second at the Missouri Tiger Invitational and the Big 5 Invitational and won the Frank Landrey Invitational as they put together one of the most successful fall seasons in school history.
Richmond's only finish outside of the top-3 this fall came at the highly competitive VCU Shootout, during which the Spiders were tied for fourth during the final round before finishing 10th out of 14 teams in a field that included seven of the top 50 teams in the nation.
Richmond senior Robert Lindstrom tied for 15th at 148 (76-72) as he finished the fall season with five top-16 finishes.
Junior Sam Beach tied for 17th at 149 (73-76) with freshman Nick Austin (77-72), who posted his second top-20 finish of the fall. Junior Michael Shrader tied for 38th at 154 (79-75).
