Clark Downs Overall No. 1 Seed As Women's Tennis Concludes Fall Action

The Richmond women's tennis team concluded its fall season at the ITA Regional Championships in Blacksburg, Va. over the weekend. Senior Erin Clark defeated #36 Michaela Kissell of Marshall, who was the overall No. 1 seed, 6-4, 6-3 to advance to the quarterfinal round.
Clark previously defeated Laura Simon of Longwood and Anik Cepeda of William & Mary before facing Kissell.
"Erin works harder than anyone I know," said head coach Mark Wesselink. "She deserves this win. Her hard work really paid off on Saturday."
Clark fell in the quarterfinal round to Erin Viera of Virginia, 6-3, 6-0 on Sunday. Sophomore Helen Cunningham fell to #2 Nadine Fouham of ODU 6-2, 6-1 and junior Kelly Tidwell fell to Lauren McCarthy of Penn State 7-5, 6-0.
In doubles play, Clark and Cunningham defeated Sarah Lotto/Amy Simidian of Penn State Friday before falling to No. 1-seeded Jennifer Stevens/Hana Tomljanovic of Virgnia on Saturday.
The Spiders open their 2010 season Jan. 24th at Virginia.
