No. 74 Richmond downed Maryland 5-2, this past weekend in College Park, Md. Richmond took the lead early in the doubles category, after No. 1 Pamela Duran/Erin Clark defeated Michal Amir/Lisa Miller 8-5 while No. 3 Helen Cunningham/Xenia Schneider defeated Lauren Wolman/Jordan Hansborough 9-7. The win pushes the Spiders to 6-1.
In singles play, Richmond continued its dominance as No. 1 Duran defeated Amir, 6-3, 7-6 (4) while No. 2 Clark defeated Eleanor Peters 6-2, 6-0. Cunningham defeated Miller, 4-6, 6-2, 6-3 while Joanna Matuszczyk defeated Hansborough, 6-4, 6-0.
"The team came out and played with a lot of heart and determination against a tough ACC opponent," said Mark Wesselink. Winning close matches against tough opponents will give us the confidence we'll need against #29 Virginia next Saturday."
