Women's Golf Finishes 29th Out Of 43 At Kiawah Island

KIAWAH ISLAND, S.C. - The Richmond women's golf team finished 29th out of 43 teams at the Edwin Watts/Kiawah Island Classic completed Tuesday.
The Spiders shot a 330 in the first round, a 310 in the second round and a 328 in the final round for a 968, five strokes behind Charleston Southern and four shots ahead of Maryland.
"We were on the Oak Point course today, which was definitely tougher of the two courses," Richmond head coach Leighann Albaugh said. "It was really rough weather conditions, really cold and windy, but it was the same conditions for everybody."
Freshman Jackie Evans tied for 87th at 238 to lead the Spiders in the spring-season opener. Evans sandwiched an 82 and 83 around a second round 1-over-par 73. Junior Lauren Folgosa tied for 94th at 239, one shot behind Evans. Folgosa shot an 82 in the first round, 76 in the second round and 81 in the third.
Junior Anne Sprick tied for 148th out of 215 players with a 248. Sprick shot an 81 in the first round, 83 in the second and 84 in the third. Sophomore Jillian Fraccola tied for 161st at 250 (86-84-80) and junior Victoria Kidder tied for 170th at 252 (85-78-89).
The Spiders return to action at the First Market Intercollegiate, hosted by William & Mary on March 21.
"The thing that we got out of this tournament is we know what we need to prepare for William & Mary," Albaugh said.
