FREDERICKSBURG, Va. -
The men's tennis team fell to Mary Washington over the weekend, 6-1. The Spiders return to action next weekend when it faces Temple, Lehigh and Saint Joseph's.
In singles action, John James def. No. 1 Sami Belakhlef 6-3, 4-6, 6-0. Randy Loden def. No. 2 Will Minter 7-5, 6-4, while Jason Dunn def. No. 3 Matt Feeley 6-4, 6-4. Riley Baver def. "This was a tough loss for us, because we had our teeth in every match, but just couldn't seem to win the critical points," said head coach Billy Boykin. "Though I thought we fought hard in every match, we played a little tight at key moments and that hurt us. Still, I give credit to the guys on the other side of the net."
In doubles action, Richmond's No. 1 Minter/Dylan Schrode def. Loden/Kaz Murata 8-4. No. 2 James/Dunn def.No. 2 Belakhlef/Hyland 8-6 while Evan Goff/Parrish def. No. 3 Arana/Nelson 8-5.
"Mary Washington outplayed us on the big points," said Boykin. "In the long run, tough matches like this will help us improve.""
