Women's Lacrosse Edged By Old Dominion

NORFOLK, Va. -
Richmond was edged by Old Dominion 16-13 Tuesday night in Norfolk. Senior Mandy Friend scored a season-high six goals.
The Spiders struck first, with two unassisted goals from seniors Mandy Friend and Allison Furstenburg around the 20 minute mark. The Monarchs quickly responded with three goals in the span of two minutes to take the 3-2 advantage.
Friend scored two goals within a minute of each other to put the score at a 4-3 Spider advantage. Old Dominion used two quick goals by Ashley Kellogg and a free position shot by Jessica Capra to regain the lead at 6-4 with eight minutes remaining in the first half.
Friend kept Richmond within striking distance with another goal off a free position shot to edge the Spiders back to 6-5 with 7:40 remaining. Thirty seconds later, Kelly Kimener scored a goal for ODU to put the advantage back at 7-5.
The Spiders closed the end of the first half strong, scoring three goals to ODU's one to knot the score at 8 all. Friend scored two of the three goals, one unassisted and one off an assist from freshman Jules Nicola added the other goal for the Spiders.
Old Dominion scored four minutes into the second half to regain the lead at 9-8. Fifield scored the equalizer three minutes later off an assist from sophomore Anne Ryan. The Monarchs then scored three unanswered goals to take the 12-9 lead.
Furstenburg score unassisted with ten minutes remaining to cut the lead to 12-10. Old Dominion's Lisa Berandini scored ten seconds later to put the score back at 13-10. Another goal from Nicola and a goal from senior Lexie Marrocco cut the deficit to 13-12, but the Spiders could get no closer. Old Dominion scored three more goals to the Spiders' one to complete the win.
Richmond returns to First Market Stadium Saturday vs. No. 17 James Madison. Game time is set for 1:00 p.m.
