UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. - The Richmond baseball team has announced an addition to its 2009 schedule, adding a game at 23rd-ranked East Carolina Tuesday night in Greenville, N.C. First pitch at Clark-LeClair Stadium is set for 6 p.m.
The Spiders (9-3) and Pirates (11-4) were long-time conference rivals in both the Southern Conference and then the Colonial, before Richmond moved to the Atlantic 10 in 2002 and ECU departed for Conference USA that same year. The Pirates lead the all-time series 51-42, with the last meeting coming in 2001.
Richmond has not played since March 12, after having a weekend series versus Yale washed out due to rain. East Carolina, which was ranked as high as 20th last week (Baseball Writers' poll) dropped two of three to UCLA in Greenville over the weekend.
Junior 3B Cameron Brown paces the Richmond offense, which is out-scoring the opposition 131-78 this season. Brown has had at least a hit in every game and leads the club with his .511 average and 21 runs scored. Junior RHP Ian Marshall (1-0, 6.91 ERA) will get the start tomorrow night.
The Spiders are back at Pitt Field Wednesday to host Longwood at 3 p.m., before opening A-10 play at home versus Massachusetts on Friday.
