Women's Lacrosse Edged By Longwood

FARMVILLE, Va. -
Senior Allison Furstenburg scored a team-high four goals but Richmond fell to Longwood, 13-11 Tuesday night in Farmville.
The Spiders took an early 3-0 lead thanks to Allison Furstenburg and Mandy Friend goals all within the first ten minutes of play. Longwood countered with three quick goals in the next four minutes to knot the score at 3-all.
Richmond regained the lead after an unassisted goal from Friend. Sophomore Anne Ryan pushed the lead to 5-3 after scoring off an assist from Furstenburg. Longwood again countered with three consecutive goals to push the score to a 6-5 Lancer advantage with 3:26 left. Furstenburg scored the equalizer thirty seconds later to end the half at 6-all.
The Lancers scored two quick goals to jump to an 8-6 lead before Richmond responded with two goals of its own to again tie the game. a goal from Kelsey Dean made the advantage 9-8 in favor of Longwood, but Richmond quickly retook the lead after another goal from Furstenburg and Ryan. Longwood countered with two quick goals to push the lead to 11-10 with ten minutes remaining. Friend scored the equalizer a minute later, but Longwood pulled away with two more goals to end the game.
The Spiders travel to Towson Saturday. Game time is set for noon.
