Women's Lacrosse Downed By Towson

Senior Mandy Friend scored a team-high three goals but Richmond fell to Towson, 17-9 Saturday afternoon in Maryland.
Towson scored first on a Britt Woodfield goal two minutes into the game. Richmond responded with an unassisted goal from senior Allison Furstenburg 40 seconds later. The Tigers then scored four consecutive goals to bolster their advantage to 5-1. Sophomore Anne Ryan scored on a Furstenburg assist to edge the Spiders back to 5-2.
In the last 10 minutes of the first half, Towson outscored Richmond 3-2 to own an 8-4 advantage at the half. Richmond's goals came from freshman Caitlin Fifield and Friend.
Friend opened the second half with a goal to cut the deficit to 8-5. Sophomore Danielle Schaevitz scored one minute later to cut the gap to 8-6. Over the next nine minutes of play, Towson went on a tear, scoring nine goals to put the lead at 17-6. Richmond scored the last three goals of the game but it would not be enough.
Richmond returns to action Monday at William & Mary. Game time is set for 7 p.m.
