Matuszczyk Named Rookie Of The Week

UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. -
Freshman Joanna Matuszczyk was named Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week after going 3-0 in matches last week. Matuszczyk recorded wins over East Carolina, Old Dominion and UMass.
"Joanna has been one of our most reliable singles positions this spring," said head coach Mark Wesselink. "She is 13-2. I'm glad she was recognized for her accomplishments. Joanna along with fellow rookie Helen Cunningham (14-4) have been a huge part of the team's success."
Matuszczyk dominated ECU's Tamara Sachs 6-0, 6-0 then knocked off Irina Dementyeva of ODU 6-4, 5-7, 6-1. At No. 3 doubles with Xevnia Schneider, Matuszczyk defeated Candynce Boney/Lauren McKay 8-7 (6).
The Spiders return to action Tuesday at James Madison. Match time is set for 2:30 p.m.
