AMHERST, Mass. - Richmond scored the last four goals of the game but fell to UMass, 13-12 Friday afternoon in Amherst. Nine different Spiders scored in the game.
Facing a 13-8 deficit with 15 minutes remaining in the game, the Spiders started their comeback surge. Sophomore Mandy Friend scored 10 seconds later from a Flowers assist for the Spiders' last goal.
"The game got away from us in the beginning," said interim head coach Peter Albright. "We really had some good performances in our comeback run. We had tremendous effort from a lot of girls today. I have confidence when we meet UMass again, the outcome won't be the same."
After trailing UMass 11-5 at the half, Richmond outscored UMass 7-1 in the second half of play. Fifield, Flowers and Schaevitz led Spider scoring with two goals apiece. Six other Spiders scored one goal each. Flowers led the Spiders with a career-best four assists.
Richmond returns to action Sunday at Temple. Game time is set for 1:00 p.m.
