Spiders Stopped By Dayton

The Richmond women's basketball team (14-5, 3-1) had its six-game win streak snapped by host Dayton (15-4, 3-1) 83-31 Saturday afternoon at UD Arena.
The Spiders struggled early, as Dayton broke open a 14-5 lead in the first five minutes of play. Richmond called a timeout at the 12:20 mark after the Flyers went up 20-10.
Dayton then took complete control of the game, outscoring the Spiders 25-5 the last 11 minutes of the first frame. The Spiders were held without a field goal the last 7:35 of the first half.
The Spiders only connected on six first-half field goals and was held to their second-lowest first-half point total of the season at 15 points. The Spiders shot a season-low 17 percent from the field and went 2-for-10 from long range. It was Richmond's first deficit at halftime in conference play and largest disadvantage since playing at No. 1 Connecticut.
Richmond's offensive struggle continued into the second half as it only connected on two field goals in the first seven minutes of the last frame.
Sophomore Abby Oliver led Richmond with 11 points. Richmond and Atlantic 10-leading scorer Brittani Shells was held to just two points.
The Spiders were held to their lowest point total of the season, as well as least amount of field goals scored.
Thirteen Flyers recorded points in the scoring column, with Kendel Ross recording a game-high 16 points. Dayton outmuscled the Spiders 44-8 in the paint and scored 27 points off turnovers.
Richmond returns to action at Charlotte Tuesday night for a 9:00 p.m. tip on CBS College Sports. The game marks the first of three televised for the Spiders.
