HARRISONBURG, Va. - The Richmond women's swimming & diving team opened a two-day double dual meet versus James Madison and Duquesne Friday night in Harrisonburg, Va. Junior Charlotte Brackett and freshman Jessie Krebs each won twice Friday.
Richmond opened a big lead on A-10 rival Duquesne and leads 147-46 through 11 events, but trails JMU by a narrow 116-89 margin heading to tomorrow's final day.
"I liked our effort tonight," said head coach Matt Barany. "But I told the team tonight that after what happened at the A-10 Championship last season that we should be used to having to battle from behind. Hopefully we'll take those lessons we learned last year and apply them tomorrow."
Brackett won the 200 free (1:54.30), took the 50 free (24.15) and got the meet started by anchoring the winning 400 medley relay (3:52.45) with Lauren Hines, Mali Kobelja and Jill Smaniotto.
Krebs captured the 1,000 free and followed that later with a win in the 400 IM (4:35.23). The rookie's time in the 1,000 free of 10:16.88 ranks fifth on the Spiders' all-time list.
Also for Richmond Friday, Hines took the 100 back (55.97), Kobelja was second in the 100 breast (1:05.89), while Nicole LePere and Alexi Kuska posted third-place finishes in the 200 fly (2:09.59) and 1,000 free (10:29.81), respectively.
Friday's action wrapped up with the 200 free relay and the Spiders' LePere, Mary Anne Lerro and Mina Vucic took second (1:38.86).
