PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - Despite possessing the ball in Lock Haven's side of the field most of the day, Richmond lost in the Atlantic 10 semifinals 4-2 after a frantic final two minutes that included three goals.
The Spiders had the ball in Lock Haven's end of the field throughout the day, but the Eagles were able to counter enough to grab a 2-0 lead early in the second half.
Richmond senior Dani Pycroft scored on a penalty corner off an assist from fellow senior Hannah Hess with 17:37 to play in the game to cut the gap to 2-1 and the Spiders continued to dominate play in Lock Haven's end of the field.
In the closing minutes, Richmond pulled its goalie and Lock Haven was able to counter the Spiders attack and draw a corner.
On the penalty corner, despite having no goalie in the game, the Spiders saved the goal but Lock Haven was awarded a penalty stroke and converted it for a 3-1 lead.
Richmond went back to using a goalie and earned a corner with 33 seconds left in the game. Sophomore Natalie Gallo scored her first-career goal to cut the lead to 3-2 and Richmond again pulled the goalie.
This time Lock Haven countered and scored an empty-net goal with 15 seconds to play.
Pycroft finished her career with 31 goals, which is tied for eighth on Richmond's all-time career list and she finished with 74 career points, just four from cracking the top-10.
With her assist, Hess finished her career with 26 points on seven goals and 12 assists.
Pycroft and freshman Chelsea Davies were named to the Atlantic 10 All-Tournament Team.
