
BLOWOUT CITY: Spiders Lead By 30 In Rout Of Crosstown Rival VCU

UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. - Senior Kevin Anderson moved into a tie for fifth on Richmond's all-time scoring list as the Spiders dominated VCU, leading by as many as 30 in a 72-60 victory Saturday in front of 8,906 fans in the Robins Center.
The Spiders led by 23 at the half (40-17) of the Farm Bureau Insurance Black & Blue Classic and pushed the lead to 30 (49-19) on a dunk by Francis-Cedric Martel with 17:37 to play. The lead was still 28 with 10:09 to play and 18 with 2:57 to play before the desperate Rams closed to the final margin.
Richmond improved to 5-0 at home and 8-2 on the season, off to the fourth-best 10-game start in school history and second-best start in the last 76 years. Richmond has won 22 of the last 23 games at home.
Anderson made 7-of-11 field goals, including both three-pointers as he tied John Schweitz for fifth on Richmond's all-time scoring list with 1,023 points. He is now four points behind former teammate David Gonzalvez for fourth on Richmond's all-time scoring list.
Richmond natives Justin Harper and Darien Brothers also reached double-figures for the Spiders. Harper scored 16 points and grabbed seven rebounds and Brothers scored 12 points.
The Spiders shot 55.1 percent from the floor and out-rebounded the Rams 33-28. Richmond blocked six shots, five of which were by junior Darrius Garrett, who moved into eighth on Richmond's all-time blocks list with 87 for his career.
Richmond has the week off and returns to action next Saturday against George Tech in The Battle At Atlantis in the Bahamas.
