Anderson Withdraws Name From NBA Draft

UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. - Atlantic 10 Player of the Year and Associated Press Honorable Mention All-American Kevin Anderson has withdrawn his name from next month's NBA Draft and will return for his senior year.
"After exploring my options and getting feedback on my dream of playing in the NBA, I have decided to return to Richmond for my senior year," Anderson said. "I love the University of Richmond, my teammates and coaches. What I have learned going through this process will only benefit myself and my teammates as we try to bring the Atlantic 10 Championship and another NCAA Tournament berth to Richmond next year."
Anderson declared for the NBA Draft on April 19, but did not sign with an agent. By removing his name from consideration by the May 8 deadline, Anderson maintains his final season of eligibility.
"We are obviously excited to have one more season coaching a player as special as Kevin Anderson," Richmond head coach Chris Mooney said. "We supported Kevin's decision to declare for the draft and look forward to his bright future, both in his final season with the Spiders and his professional career."
Anderson led the Spiders in scoring at 17.8 points per game as he helped lead Richmond to the 2010 NCAA Tournament with a 26-9 record, tying the school record for most wins in a season.
The Atlanta, Ga. native is already eighth on Richmond's all-time career scoring list with 1,549 points. His 622 points in 2009-10 rank seventh on Richmond's single-season list and his 230 field goals this past season ranks ninth on the school's single-season list. Anderson's 61 steals in 2009-10 rank sixth on the school's single-season list and his 164 career steals rank sixth on Richmond's career list, just nine steals out of fourth.
Anderson has helped guide the Spiders to back-to-back 20-win seasons and 62 wins in his three seasons in the West End.
The 2009-10 Spiders, who finished the season ranked No. 24 in the Associated Press Top-25 Poll, went 13-3 in the Atlantic 10, just a two-point double-overtime loss at Xavier from sharing the conference regular-season title. Richmond advanced to the Atlantic 10 title game, where they were edged by No. 12 ranked Temple 56-52.
Richmond loses two starters, David Gonzalvez and Ryan Butler, but returns every other roster player from the 2009-10 NCAA Tournament team.
