WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. - Junior Katelin Peterson had two goals and freshman Christina Amorose scored for the third time in as many games as Richmond defeated Monmouth 3-1 Saturday.
Peterson, who scored three goals in Richmond's win over Monmouth last fall, brought her career goal total to 27 and now has 65 career points. She is just two goals and three points from cracking Richmond's Top-10 list in both categories.
Amorose scored for the third-straight game to open her collegiate career and added an assist on Peterson's first goal, just 2:31 into the game. Amorose already has seven points in three games this season.
Junior Betsy Herr had the assist on Peterson's second goal in the 45th minute and freshman Chelsea Davies assited on Amorose's goal that gave the Spiders a 3-0 lead with 21:08 to play.
Monmouth scored its goal with 2:47 remaining to break the shutout bid.
The Spiders (2-1) play at Rutgers on Sunday at 1 p.m. and have their home opener on Wednesday against city-rival VCU.
