UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. - Richmond's 2010-11 schedule includes six 2010 NCAA Tournament teams and 14 teams that played in the postseason last March.
The Spiders' 16-game conference schedule was announced Tuesday, along with 14 non-conference games. Richmond could still add one non-conference game to the schedule.
Richmond will play nine games broadcast by CBS College Sports or the ESPN family of networks, highlighted by televised home games against Xavier (ESPN2) and Saint Louis (ESPN or ESPN2).
The Spiders' game at Dayton will be on ESPNU, Richmond will play Rhode Island and Temple on the CBS College Sports Channel, and four games will be televised on CBS College Sports Regional. Additional television broadcasts and game times will be announced at a later date.
Seven of Richmond's home games are against teams that played in the postseason last year with visits from Wake Forest (NCAA), Xavier (NCAA Sweet 16), William & Mary (NIT), Rhode Island (NIT), George Washington (CBI), Saint Louis (CBI) and VCU (CBI) in the Farm Bureau Insurance Black & Blue Classic.
"We are very pleased with the non-conference schedule that we have put together again this year," Richmond head coach Chris Mooney said. "We have the opportunity to make some great road trips and play some high level opponents, which will prepare us for another challenging year in the Atlantic 10, clearly one of the toughest leagues in the country."
Richmond will play two ACC teams that played in the NCAA Tournament last season, hosting Wake Forest on Dec. 29 and playing Georgia Tech at the Atlantis Resort in the Bahamas on Dec. 18.
Richmond will play in the Chicago Invitational Challenge, hosting Charleston Southern (Nov. 21) and Southern (Nov. 23) and then heading to Chicago to play Wright State (Nov. 26) at the Sears Centre with a possible matchup with Purdue on Nov. 27.
The Spiders make a road trip to Pac-10 country to play Arizona State on Dec. 5 and face in-state competition in William & Mary and VCU at home and Old Dominion on the road. Richmond opens the season on Friday, Nov. 12 against the Citadel.
Richmond went 26-9 and 13-3 in the Atlantic 10 last season, finishing a two-point double-overtime loss shy of winning the A-10 Regular Season Championship and reaching the conference title game, before losing to nationally ranked Temple by four.
The Spiders, who finished the year ranked No. 24 in the Associated Press Top-25 Poll and earned an at-large bid as a No. 7 seed in the NCAA Tournament, return 14 of 16 players off last year's roster including Atlantic 10 Player of the Year and Honorable Mention All-American Kevin Anderson.
