UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND - Two days after sweeping the season series from James Madison, the Richmond Spiders swept the Atlantic 10 swimming & diving weekly awards as sophomore Lauren Hines was named the Performer of the Week and freshman Mali Kobelja earned the Rookie of the Week.
As Richmond took all but one swimming event and led wire-to-wire in the 158-149 victory over the Dukes Saturday at Robins Center Natatorium, Hines and Kobelja combined for seven individual wins and teamed in the Spiders' 200 medley relay victory.
Hines won all four events she entered, swimming the lead-off leg in both winning relays, while collecting wins in the 100 back (55.79) and 100 free (51.33). The team's 200 medley relay time of 1:45.31 was a season-best and ranks as the fastest in the A-10 this season. The honor is the second of the season for the sophomore from Roanoke, Va.
Kobelja won a team-high three individual events and also swam on the winning 200 medley relay en route to securing her fourth A-10 weekly honor of the season. The freshman from Ft. Wayne, Ind. won the 100 breast (1:05.47), the 200 breast (2:22.69) and set a season-best time in the 400 IM (4:28.18).
Richmond, which also defeated JMU 180-173 earlier this season in Harrisonburg, finished the regular-season with an 8-3 record in dual meets. The Spiders are next in action when the A-10 Championship begins Feb. 23 in Buffalo, N.Y.
