Spiders Ditch Explorers For Third-Best Start In 56 Years

UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. - Kevin Anderson scored 27 points and Justin Harper had his second double-double in the last four games with 25 points and 10 boards as Richmond (13-4, 2-0 A10) won at La Salle 87-68 Saturday.
The Spiders used a 26-2 second-half run to cruise to their 11th-double-figure win of the season and their third-straight win at Gola Arena. Richmond held La Salle to 34.3 percent shooting and shot 53.4 percent from the field, including 47.8 percent from three.
Richmond improved to 6-0 in its Atlantic 10 road openers under Chris Mooney and the Spiders have won 10 of the last 12 A-10 road games. The Spiders are off to a 13-4 start, the best start since the 1987-88 Sweet 16 team opened 14-3 and the third-best start in 56 years.
Anderson made 9-of-16 field goals, including 3-of-4 three-pointers, and had four assists and three steals.
Harper made 10-of-17 field goals, including three three-pointers as he recorded his third-career double-double and second in the last four games. He has scored at least 19 points in the last five games and at least 25 points in the last two. Harper grabbed nine of his 10 rebounds on the defensive end and blocked two shots.
Dan Geriot scored 13 points, making 5-of-8 field goals, including 2-of-3 three-pointers. Darien Brothers scored all seven of his points in the 26-2 run. Kevin Smith had five of Richmond's 19 assists.
The Spiders return to action Thursday when they host Rhode Island at 7 p.m. in the Robins Center in a game televised nationally on CBS College Sports.
